Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris born October 20, 1964) is an American politician and lawyer who is the 49th and current vice-president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female elected vice president and also holds the title of highest-ranking female officer in the history of America. She is a member and former senator from California. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. After starting her career as an Alameda County District Attorney Harris was enlisted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Later she became the City Attorney of San Francisco. The office was named San Francisco district attorney in 2003. In 2010 Harris was appointed Attorney General of California. Harris was elected again in 2014. Harris was the junior United States senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Martinez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the second African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. As senator, she fought for reforms to healthcare as well as federal de-scheduling cannabis, a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants as well as the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. She earned national attention for her pointed questioning of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings, including Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual assault.
